There’s something distinctly Northern feeling about Caravan Restaurants. Which is weird considering thus far, we’re their first Northern site.
It’s hard to pin down exactly why. It’s nothing to do with the decor, the amazing food, or the top-tier cocktails, though all of that is spot-on.
But the vibe—it just screams Manchester, and not in a cringe, “let’s slap Liam Gallagher murals everywhere, and name our lamb dish ..’r kid” kind of way.
Maybe it was the way the founders and their managing director, Jo, were working the room like we were in their own homes, attending one of their own dinner party’s. They went table to table, chatting with guests, clearing plates, proper mucking in and genuinely making sure everyone was having a great time.
THAT is northern hospitality at its finest.
And that was totally echoed by everyone we met last night. Each team member had that same friendly, down-to-earth energy.
And look, soft launches are usually a mix of excitement and nerves—a chance for the team to show off their training.
But Caravan’s soft launch? Felt totally different. It felt personal, it felt like they’d been there years.
They’ve taken a bit of a gamble with the location, but hey, it worked wonders at their King’s Cross spot. And I think they’ll pave the way for other great hospitality businesses to soon join them, along with Fenix and Factory International. Plus, it’s just a 12-minute walk from my front door, so can’t complain.
As for the food, well, you’ll just have to check it out yourself when they open. But I will say this: I had a lamb chop so good it brought a tear to my eye.
So, Caravan, welcome to the neighbourhood. You’re in very good company
